Marcus Harris
Smile Affordable Housing Development Director
Marcus Harris, Affordable Housing Development Director, is responsible for developing and overseeing affordable housing opportunities for SMILE Community Action Agency. His duties include partnering with local, state and federal governments to provide affordable housing.
He is also responsible for providing comprehensive housing education and counseling services, including First-time Homebuyers Education, financial literacy and credit repair, and individual/group counseling.
He is certified as a HUD Housing Counselor.
He reports directly to SMILE CEO Craig A. Mathews.
He serves as the staff liaison for the SMILE CHDO (Community Housing Development Organization) Board.
He has been a full-time employee of the Agency for one and a half years.
However, Marcus is no stranger to affordable housing and the real estate industry. He brings more than 17 years of real estate and mortgage experience to the Agency, and 25 years of management and leadership experience. He is also proficient in sales and marketing strategies, and adept to repositioning assets to maximize company benefits.
Prior to SMILE, his careers ranged, from maintaining a monthly sales average of $1.5 million as a broker at Carteret Mortgage in Dallas, to serving as CEO and Owner of Harris Consulting Firm in Lancaster. Stints have also included working as Marketing Director for ByNet in Franklin, and supervising a staff of nearly 50 loan originators for Countrywide Home Loans Corporation in Plano, Texas.
In January 2020, Marcus became part of the SMILE team as the Affordable Housing Develop-ment Director under the Mathews administration.
Marcus also works as a Realtor and Broker Associate. He is the author of Destination Destiny: Discovery Your Destiny in the Midst of Life’s Disappointments.
He has a B.S. in Business Management (Accounting) from McNeese State University.
