Smile Executive Administrative Assistant

Rita McCoy, Executive Administrative Assistant, is responsible for the administrative formalities of management for SMILE Community Action Agency. She acts in accordance with the trust placed in her by the CEO. She is privy to confidential matters and is discreet at all times.

Rita relieves the CEO and the SMILE Board of Directors of various administrative details and performs clerical duties in association with the administration of Agency programs. She coordinates and maintains effective office procedures.

She is also responsible for establishing and maintaining a harmonious working relationship with superiors, coworkers, subordinates, clients, suppliers and the general public.

She reports directly to SMILE CEO Craig A. Mathews.

She serves as the staff liaison for the SMILE Board of Directors.

She has been a full-time employee of the Agency for 25 years.

However, Rita has more than 30 years of office and clerical experience. Her career dates back to 1989 at Texas Southern University when she began as a Data Entry Operator in its Office of Development. Eleven years later, she rose through the ranks to become a Senior Secretary in its College of Pharmacy & Health Services.

One of her stints at the university included updating and typing legal materials at its Thurgood Marshall School of Law’s Law Library, as well as assisting students, faculty, staff and the general public.

In 2001, Rita became part of the SMILE team as Secretary I under the Helen Boyance admini-stration. During her years at SMILE, she has served as Acting Human Resources Director, Executive Secretary, and today as Executive Administrative Assistant.

Her current duties also include transcribing Board minutes and preparing Board packets.

She is certified in Data Entry, Word Processing and Information Processing.
